One strand of the ancient biographical tradition places Terence’s death at Stymphalus in Arcadia. Competing traditions report illness elsewhere in Greece, Leucas, or shipwreck on the return voyage; this card records only the explicitly located Stymphalus account. The 159 BC date is Suetonius’s consular date; Jerome gives 158 BC. The precise death place is disputed in the ancient tradition.
