· Carthaginian Hispania, Spain

Wikimedia Commons · Public domain · file As a boy, Hannibal departed for Hispania with his father Hamilcar, beginning his long association with the Carthaginian conquest there. The Latin says that Hannibal went to Hispania with his father. The expedition is variously dated to 238 or 237 BC; Cartagena is a representative point for Carthaginian Hispania, not a documented arrival site.
