Krishnan obtained spectra of modified scattering at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, the result later known as the Raman effect. The exact discovery date, 28 February 1928, is supported by the C. V. Raman biography's account that Raman and Krishnan obtained the separated spectra that day.
