   Herodotus reports the Greek belief that Thales was in Croesus' encampment and redirected the Halys River so the Lydian army could cross during Croesus' campaign against Persia. Herodotus presents this as the general Greek belief and expresses doubt. The conventional 547 BC campaign date is disputed; coordinates are a representative central-river point, not an established crossing site.
