After stabilizing Gemini VIII following a dangerous thruster malfunction, Armstrong and Scott made an emergency landing in the western Pacific and awaited recovery. NASA gives the landing site as 25.220° N, 136.000° E; the date is March 16, 1966 in U.S. mission time, March 17 locally.
